Ungifted.

There is no drug
more merciless than you;
spite that spills in the skull,
rattles in the body.

“So what if you are dangerous,”
she says, embracing you
with her unbroken white bones.
“I will still take you in.”

(and she does,
caging you with the
sharpness of her ribs.)

And you,
opening yourself within her chest
fill her lungs and creep out;
a habit she will not lose
and a vow she will not break.

December 2011.
